Great article, Allen. I'm reading *Eichmann in Jerusalem* (which I'll be writing about soon), and one of the more striking take aways is the role played by Jews in helping perpetrate the Holocaust. Despite Arendt's conclusions that without the assistance of Jewish leaders, the Final Solution could not have been carried out, it seems no lesson was learned and nothing has changed. The Soros backing of the anti-Israel campaign is enough to make one's head spin. The CBC has been using anti-Zionist Jews relentlessly.
Then there's the issue of basic abnegation of morality which we're seeing everywhere. The same creepy lack of moral compass that says it's okay to rape and murder and behead and set on fire Jews also thinks it's okay to wish the shooter had killed Trump. I find myself continuously shocked at the present environment. I feel like I'm surrounded by bloodthirsty lunatics... my neighbours, acquaintances, good buddies. It's the Third Reich all over again. Whenever I find words, I feel morally obligated to point out to folks that what they're saying is immoral. Someone has to say something... otherwise folks simply won't know it's wrong -- however horrifying that may sound.
I agree with your views. When I read that the Columbia student said he would be "comfortable" killing, then I realized that things had changed more than I had realized. There is a widening gap between words and their meaning. Politicians talk unity and attack each other. Political action groups misrepresent each other in hostile terms and ask for our financial support. Leaders in the US pull the most obvious deceptions with the aid of the media, attacking anybody who points to their dishonestly. The Secret Service did not survey a rooftop because its incline was deemed "unsafe for agents." Carelessness invites violence. Shoot first, don't bother with questions. Get your stuff out on X, pound away. I am deep into Gibbon's "Decline and Fall" and am amazed at the scale of corruption and mayhem the Senate countenanced to promote family interest. The few voices objecting were, then as now, easily silenced. As you say, no lessons learned, nothing changes.
Formidable. Funny thing in the Eichmann book, I have the impression that no Nazi would have said they felt comfortable killing anyone. Apparently the Rumanians might have used that sort of language when it came to Jews. My understanding is that the same was true of the Ukrainians. So when Columbia James used those words, he put himself in a special category of antisemite alongside the depraved Hamas. Considering what Hamas did, it's worth noting still further that no one in WWII Europe (excepting the above-mentioned) would have condoned that sort of gleeful murder: that would have been met with universal horror and international clamouring against it. The "imperfect victim" concept makes the Nazis look like a moral bunch.
Very well said, Allen. Thanks for this. Hatred of Israel has been prepared for decades on American (and Canadian) campuses. The University of Toronto, considered one of Canada's best universities, inaugurated Israel Apartheid Week in 2005, which assiduously spread the narrative of Israel's colonial oppression and called for divestment from and sanctions against Israel. According to Wikipedia, Israel Apartheid Week has spread to at least 55 cities "including locations in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Botswana, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Palestine, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States." Many of these cities contain no Jews at all, but hatred against them can still be fomented.
Thanks, Janice. I don't think people know enough about the long-term build-up of this kind of hatred. Nobody has perspective or a sense of history. These "calls" for divestment and sanctions are and have long been aimed at provoking violence. It was heartening to see Netanyahu last night. This morning the NY Times was busy refuting his claims, saying that he traveled 5,000 miles and did not give an inch--as if concessions were to be expected of him, to please his critics. Bottom line: he's a hard-liner and it is all his fault. If only he could compromise like Biden--well, let's see, not like Biden, like, um, well . . . .
So true Allen. Netanyahu apparently said that "Gays for Gaza" could be likened to "Chickens for KFC!" I laughed! There is truth in that. The ignorance of these students is astounding. I really enjoyed this article. So informative in so many ways. I was vaguely aware of the funding paths but you laid it out clearly and also the sources in universities for the victim stuff. Imperfect victim! What a phrase. Many thanks Allen.
He did make the chickens for KFC comment, Tom, and it is hard to beat that one, Tom. Gays for Gaza indeed. At least the chicken part is right. Who are these people who think that alliteration creates solidarity with people who would toss them off rooftops if they had a chance, or at least lock them up? The NY Times sighs that "gay life is taboo" in Gaza. Taboo! What? No Pride Parade? What a shame.
Fantastic article, Allen. Though I've read some similar analyses of funding, your delineation of the five levels of funding was more illustrative than any others I've read, and superlative. Thank you for writing this. The tolerance of expressed wishes for violence against Jews is frightening, and the role of Critical Pedagogy in all of it is revelatory.
Thieve are facts that need to be much more widely understood. I’m guessing that most people think of Bill Ann Melinda Gates as great humanitarians. As if! And many other foundations enjoy sterling reputations that rake no account of their antisemitic underpinnings. Thanks for this posting, Allen.
An excellent description of 'protesting' students, their professors, and Critical Pedagogy. A deceptive description of Israel and pro-Israel ideology. The clash between Israelis and Palestinians is a clash between rival vicious gangs. Both are rapacious villains driven by demonic spirits. Allies of both are as ignorant as the protesting students. And, the clash has all the markings of WW III. It is internecine warfare among the Marxist-Muslim world.

Really enjoyed the article, Allen!
I can't argue with any of the points made, but I was surprised that Qatar (and its money) was not mentioned.
Yes, agreed, I should have dug into this, the money behind the money. Thanks for your note.
